Introduction
This medicine is a neurodegenerative disease drug, meaning this drug is used to alleviate conditions in the neurovascular system brought about by aging. Nicergoline is used by over 50 countries for over a decade now.
Composition
The main component of this drug is Nicergoline which includes a-adrenergic blocking activity and produces vasodilatation which can aid at treating dementia and other vascular disorders. This can be taken in orally in 5mg or 30 mg strength to help increase the flow of blood in the artery.
Use
Sermion is produce to treat various conditions such as mental degeneration brought about by aging, dementia of different types both senile and presenile, dizziness, mood swings, tinnitus or ringing sensation in the ear, sleep walking or somnambulism, Parkinson’s disease, disorientation, anorexia, and decreased vigilance.
Dosage and administration
The drug is taken orally. The common therapeutic dose is 30 mg two times a day or 60 mg once a day. It can be taken in full stomach or even in an empty stomach. Ideally, it is taken before meal. When this drug is taken with atenolol, additive effect on the patient will be observed. However, when this drug is to be taken with doxycycline toxicity may occur. When this drug is to be taken with any forms of drug precautionary measures should apply. It is important to clinically monitor the patient. The medicine is available in drops and tablet form. Drops form comes with a one bottle of solvent and one vial of powder. The tablet is put in a container and each container has a total of 45 tablets.
Contraindication

The main component of this drug is known to facilitate the depressive effects on the heart of patient who is under propranolol therapy.

Side effects
Side effects of this drug include but not limited to gastric upset, hot flush feeling, insomnia, and rubeosis. A reported case from a patient revealed that after taking Sermion there is a sudden change in the laboratory test. There is increased in the level of aminotransferase, increased in blood glucose, the urea in the blood also increased, and there is a decreased in the lymphocyte. If you experience any of which that is severe in nature go to your health care provider immediately.
storage
Be watchful of the expiry date. Discard immediately once expired. The mixed solution is the drops form should be stored in a room temperature and discard after one month. Always refer to the guidelines in administering and storing of drugs in the label of the bottle.
