Indocin is non steroidal anti inflammatory use for treating disease condition such as osteoarthritis, gouty arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, and rheumatoid arthritis. This was manufactured by Bombay Tablet Manufacturing, Micro Labs, and EMP. Indomethacin is the generic name of this drug. Inmecin is another brand name for this drug.

Composition

The main component of Indocin is indomethacin. Every capsule contains 25 mg and 50 mg of indomethacin.

Use

This medication is use to treat gouty attacks. It relieves the symptoms of arthritis. It also lowers fever. The healing effect of this drug reduces the inflammation and joint stiffness. It is also important to be on a diet regiment as a supplement for the drug. Nuts and seeds should not be taken as this may worsen the condition. Eat healthy food like fruits and vegetables.

Dosage and administration

It is of great importance to read the medicine guide before starting any treatment. The drug is taken orally with a glass full of water. Do not lie down for 30 minutes after taking the drug. This can also be taken with antacid to avoid stomach upset. The dosage may vary depending on the response to treatment. For adults, the right dosage is not more than 200 mg daily. For children, the dosing will greatly depend on the body weight of the child. For joint disorder condition, the starting dose is 25 mg two times a day to three times a day in a week interval up until 150 mg to 200 mg. It is highly encouraged to drink milk or take antacid while taking this medication for the avoidance of stomach upset.

Contraindication

The use of this drug is contraindicated to pregnant and lactating mother. Children and patient with psychiatric disturbance are highly prohibited to use this medicine. As this drug can upset the stomach, patients with bleeding disorders are not allowed to be in this drug therapy, especially patients who have hepatic disorder. Those with active peptic ulcer disease should not take this drug too. Any person who has hypersensitivity reaction to any of the component of the medication is advised to not take the medicine.

Important Precautions

This drug is not to be use as a substitute to corticosteroid. Pregnant woman and lactating mother are not advice to take this drug also. Extra precaution is taken when the patient is operating heavy equipment or machineries, or when the patient is driving. Asthmatic patient should take precautionary measures too.

Side effects

Side effects are very common to all medicine. The reported side effects of Indocin are drowsiness, stomach upset, headache, easy fatigability, heart burn, but if this worsens, you need to seek medical attention right away.
